Your Yellowstone Country Trout Tour Includes

Soak in the Sun in Sunlight Basin

The Yellowstone Country Trout Tour is an adventure. You’ll be fishing, exploring and circumventing the southern Absaroka Range from Yellowstone Park to Dubois, Thermopolis and all the way to Cody. You’ll begin your adventure fishing small streams in the Sunlight Basin region northwest of Cody. Here, cutthroats and rainbows eagerly eat dry flies in the backcountry creeks. Stay at the 7D Ranch or along the Clarks Fork River.  Then we'll head into Yellowstone Park and fish streams in the northeast portion of the Park. You can wade fish roadside streams and hike or ride horseback into backcountry waters.  Dry fly fishing for beautiful native Yellowstone Cutthroats is also and excellent way to spend your time. You’ll enjoy the diverse wildlife of the Lamar Valley, as well as the Park’s beautiful landscapes and towering summits of the Absarokas.  Next we’ll head to southern Yellowstone to fish the headwaters of the Snake River for large Snake River and Yellowstone cutthroats.  If none of those options appeal to you, fish the challenging meadow water of the Lewis River for a chance at a large brown or you can scramble deep into the abyss of the Lewis River Canyon to fish high riding dries in its pocket water and plunge pools beneath waterfalls. Stay at Jackson Lake Lodge, Flagg Ranch or a local guest ranch along the Buffalo Fork. From here we’ll head east over gorgeous Togwotee Pass into the upper Wind River drainage to Dubois where you’ll stay at a vacation home or guest ranch.  Here, you’ll fish the upper Wind River for its beautiful browns, rainbows and cutthroats while admiring the impressive geologic formations of the Wind River Range. Recap the day’s adventures after fishing with an ice cold beverage at the Whiskey Creek Saloon.  Next you’ll wade one of the Wind’s smaller tributaries working its riffles and runs with dry flies for native Yellowstone Cutthroats. We’ll then move downstream to Thermopolis to float the Bighorn River in search of its large trout. Enjoy conversation and camaraderie over dinner at the Stone’s Throw as you watch the mule deer and antelope just outside your window on the golf course.  Your trip will finish around Meeteetse with fishing in one of the small streams in this watershed that supports the best, genetically-pure, populations of Yellowstone cutthroat trout that remain.

Our guides work very hard to ensure an enjoyable trip, and we encourage you to tip accordingly. As a general rule, gratuities range from $100-$200/day/guide, although an excellent day of fishing, a memorable event, or extra effort on the guide's behalf may deserve more. Please consider that our guides work harder when fishing is slow or during adverse weather. Cash gratuities should be given directly to your guide daily or upon finishing multi-day trips.

Many variables beyond our control, like weather, wind, barometric pressure, water temperatures, and fish behavior, influence the day's fishing. There are many ways you can enjoy a guided trip beyond the fish. Please align your expectations with the conditions and your abilities. No expectations, no disappointments!

Clients frequently invite guides for drinks or dinner after fishing. Socializing is a great way to celebrate the day's events, plan the next day, and connect. While guides always appreciate the client's generosity, buying drinks and dinner are not considered part of or in lieu of gratuities. Socializing extends a guide's long and physically demanding day. Time is required before and after each day's trip for preparing, organizing, and cleaning.

If you have any concerns or are disappointed in your trip in any way, please let us know.
