Your Pioneer Trails Trout Tour Includes

Ride Into the Proverbial Sunset

In the mid 1800’s about 500,000 emigrants made their way west along the interlaced California, Morman, and Oregon Trails in search of new lives and fortunes. Central Wyoming’s Sweetwater River made the impossible possible by providing a relatively easy passage, fresh water and grass for livestock through the otherwise rugged and arid high desert. South Pass on the southern end of the Wind River Range was the other key discovery made in the early 1800’s. South Pass provided the easiest route through the Rockies and opened up the West. Our Pioneer Trails Trout Tour takes you to this all but forgotten rivershed where we have access to miles of public and private water.  The Sweetwater is a small wade fishing stream that has good early summer hatches followed by excellent hopper and terrestrial fishing into early fall. Here you’ll find rainbows and browns in the 12”-17” class with an occasional lunker. You’ll wade fish hay meadows, willow-lined braids, deep cut banks and dry rocky canyons casting dries or stripping buggers. In places you’ll also be able to view and actually follow the various historic trails and may even see one of the area’s Pony Express Stations. Your accommodations will be on the east slope of the Wind River Range in the pretty little town of Lander, or perhaps in the historical mining town of Atlantic City, home of Calamity Jane.   Our extended tour includes a few days fishing some of the small Wind River Mountains foothill streams and the Green River.  After a long day of fishing savor a craft beer and a hearty meal at Cowfish or the Lander Brewing Company.  Join us to fish and explore Wyoming’s least known rivers. These rivers are truly Wyoming’s Home on the Range.

Our guides work very hard to ensure an enjoyable trip, and we encourage you to tip accordingly. As a general rule, gratuities range from $100-$200/day/guide, although an excellent day of fishing, a memorable event, or extra effort on the guide's behalf may deserve more. Please consider that our guides work harder when fishing is slow or during adverse weather. Cash gratuities should be given directly to your guide daily or upon finishing multi-day trips.

Many variables beyond our control, like weather, wind, barometric pressure, water temperatures, and fish behavior, influence the day's fishing. There are many ways you can enjoy a guided trip beyond the fish. Please align your expectations with the conditions and your abilities. No expectations, no disappointments!

Clients frequently invite guides for drinks or dinner after fishing. Socializing is a great way to celebrate the day's events, plan the next day, and connect. While guides always appreciate the client's generosity, buying drinks and dinner are not considered part of or in lieu of gratuities. Socializing extends a guide's long and physically demanding day. Time is required before and after each day's trip for preparing, organizing, and cleaning.

If you have any concerns or are disappointed in your trip in any way, please let us know.
