Your Northwest Wyoming Trout Tour Includes

The Wind River is Calling

On the Northwest Wyoming Trout Tour you’ll travel through sheer canyons, rolling sagebrush and juniper lined hills, and over bucolic river bottoms. You’ll view interesting geologic formations like spires, hoodoos and the magnificent Wind River Canyon. You’ll appreciate the small town western atmosphere of Cody, Meeteetse, Thermopolis and Dubois with their many amenities and attractions.  The fishing will begin around Cody on waters like the Clarks Fork, Shoshone or the Wind River’s  main forks and then move on to small mountain streams near Meeteetse. Enjoy a steak at the Rib & Chop House or Proud Cut in Cody. Grab a cold one and a burger at the Elkhorn Bar & Grill in Meeteetse. Stay in comfortable accommodations in Cody and Meeteetse and check out a variety of downtown businesses like the Meeteetse Chocolatier. After a few days we’ll head south to fish for the fat trout of the Bighorn River at Thermopolis.  On the way, if you’d like, take a quick detour to view Legend Rock State Petroglyph Site. You’ll float the Bighorn fishing small dries or larger terrestrials with droppers to catch the river’s large browns, rainbows, cutthroats and cutbows. Enjoy one of our favorite dinners at Bangkok Thai followed by a soak in one of Thermopolis’ several mineral hot springs after a long day of fishing. Next we’ll travel up the Wind River to its source near Dubois, located between the Wind River and Absaroka Ranges.  The upper Wind River valley has incredibly beautiful vistas while Dubois has a romantic western nostalgic feel.  The Wind River has an ample population of healthy rainbows, browns and cutthroats that hold in the stream’s riffles, runs and pocket water. You’ll fish attractors and terrestrials with droppers or, if we’re lucky, you’ll match one of the rivers hatches.  You’ll stay in one of the area’s beautiful vacation homes or at one of the nearby guest ranches.  To round out the trip you’ll wade fish a couple of the Wind’s small tributaries fishing dry flies for beautiful Yellowstone Cutthroats.

Our guides work very hard to ensure an enjoyable trip, and we encourage you to tip accordingly. As a general rule, gratuities range from $100-$200/day/guide, although an excellent day of fishing, a memorable event, or extra effort on the guide's behalf may deserve more. Please consider that our guides work harder when fishing is slow or during adverse weather. Cash gratuities should be given directly to your guide daily or upon finishing multi-day trips.

Many variables beyond our control, like weather, wind, barometric pressure, water temperatures, and fish behavior, influence the day's fishing. There are many ways you can enjoy a guided trip beyond the fish. Please align your expectations with the conditions and your abilities. No expectations, no disappointments!

Clients frequently invite guides for drinks or dinner after fishing. Socializing is a great way to celebrate the day's events, plan the next day, and connect. While guides always appreciate the client's generosity, buying drinks and dinner are not considered part of or in lieu of gratuities. Socializing extends a guide's long and physically demanding day. Time is required before and after each day's trip for preparing, organizing, and cleaning.

If you have any concerns or are disappointed in your trip in any way, please let us know.
